Issue 1 | December 16, 2022

Welcome

I'm AMAZED by the active and supportive community we've built on Discord in such a short time. We're already at 1000+ people! I started it on a whim in late October when it seemed like there was going to be a mass exodus from Twitter. Maybe you've left Twitter, maybe you haven't. Maybe you're just diversifying where you're spending time on the internet. Either way, we're glad to have you.

Since this is our first issue, expect Dispatches to evolve. We'll figure out what works, what doesn't, and what can be improved.

THANK YOU to my co-moderators — Tal, Keelin, Jay, Anna, and Matthew — for keeping things going. We'll be switching off newsletter curator duties, so you'll hear from someone else next week.

P.s. we're looking to add one more moderator to the Discord. Please reach out if you're in a timezone far away from the U.S.

Podcast of the Week

Keelin, one of our moderators, selects one podcast per week from the links submitted in #self-promo.

This week, About a Girl, submitted by Discord member pcsquared:

About a Girl is a scripted narrative anthology series about women whose stories have long been eclipsed by the legends of their famous partners.

Member News

The following news stories have been shared throughout the week in the #self-promo channel on Discord. To be included, make sure you're posting there!

  • From K.O. Myers: "It's another Particulations newsletter. This time, some questions to ask if your audience isn't as larger (or growing as fast) as you'd hoped."

  • From One Mic History: "I really enjoyed making this episode because I learned about how Ruby Bridges felt during the time and some of the issues she faced. Ruby Bridges was a six-year-old Black American child, who desegregated William Frantz Elementary School in New Orleans in 1960."

  • From rachelsholiday: "In the ultimate irony, our What The Finance episode on quiet quitting ended up being released late."
